Chicagoans are living through the coronavirus pandemic Monday

The week begins with Chicagoans following Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s order to stay at home. Residents tested out this new, new normal over the weekend when it went into effect Saturday evening.

Those of us who are still showing up to work include everyone from vital medical professionals and CTA employees, to cashiers who bear the brunt of the rush for groceries.

But Chicagoans are still finding ways to spend time together and lend a hand, whether it’s by sewing face masks for local doctors and nurses or donating medical supplies originally bought as theater props. Chicago News

The Beacon Tap in Des Plaines is sending customers home with toilet paper with delivery and takeout orders. And according to general manager Tommy Riemer, that’s going to be the practice until his distributor tells him he can’t give him anymore. Chicago Medical News “My delivery drivers and the girls that are bringing food curbside, the stories that they’re coming back in with is great because the customer is laughing and saying: ‘Oh my gosh, I didn’t think this was real. Oh, my goodness, thank you so much — hang on to this for somebody else who needs it. I don’t need it right now.’” Reimer said. “It really reminds you that there are so many good people out there. You’ve got to keep a smile on everybody’s face right now. That’s all we’re trying to do.” Chicago political News
